Aktivista, lelkes, rugalmas önkéntest keres az Artemisszió Alapítvány két EVS projekthez. 2012 februárjától 6 hónapra keresnek önkéntest Freetown-ba (Sierra Leone). A projekt a környezeti igazságossággal, a környezeti neveléssel és a lakhatási joggal foglalkozik.
THE CONTEXT
The projects are parts of the multilateral EVS project called ’Volunteers for social inclusion’.
This reciprocal exchange project will enable young people from EU countries to engage in voluntary service projects dealing with social inclusion in African and Latin American countries, as well as volunteers from Africa and Latin America to volunteer in similar projects in Europe.
The volunteers will work in a variety of local host organisations such as community centres, shelters for street children, organisations dealing with the inclusion of disadvantaged young people, migrants and local minorities, through animation and various activities aimed at promoting the right of persons experiencing social exclusion to live in dignity and to take an active part in society.
The GENERAL PROFILE of the volunteers involved in the project:
As volunteers are important actors in shaping the societies all over the world, our aim is to create a network of socially engaged volunteers. Besides the mutual intercultural learning process, the volunteers will foster social change through their voluntary work with specific socially disadvantaged groups and acquire methods for their social inclusion as well as experience to bring back home.
Volunteers participating in the project should be:
- ’activists’ (active promoters of social change)
- sensitive to social questions
- ready to learn and bring methods back home and apply them in the local context
1st project on environmental justice
AT THE ’COMMUNITEE SUPPORT SERVICES SIERRA LEONE’ (Freetown, Sierra Leone)
The ‘Community Support Services Sierra Leone’ is a small NGO located in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone. They are active in issues concerning environmental justice and housing rights.
Possible tasks for the volunteer:
- Developing a campaign of sensitization in schools (primary and secondary schools), educational institutions, communities etc. regarding the importance of protection of the environment.
- Research on the different environmental laws and their effects ( land, housing, mining and fishing).
- Field visits to effected areas (mining, fishing etc) and communities, visits to policy making institutions
- Organizing workshops for kids and youths, then organizing garbage collection/cleaning the street and beaches in some selected areas .
- Participate in some data collection regarding housing situation in Sierra Leone.
2nd project on arts and social inclusion
AT THE ‘ONE FAMILY PEOPLE’ (FREETOWN, SIERRA LEONE)
The One Family People is an NGO located in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone. It has a broad activities ranging from advocacy on disability, women and children’s rights. The main target group is the youngsters with disabilities (polio victim, deaf etc). The main activities of OFP are:
- provide socio-economic empowerment through trainings in Music, Dance, Theatre and Comedy, to ensure that persons with disabilities know and claim their rights and live self-determined lives in their communities with dignity·
- advocate for the provision of their basic necessities such as shelter, education, medical care, food, clothing and basic skills that will improve their lives.
- undertake in-depth social work with persons with disability and children living and scattered in the streets of Freetown, as well as in temporary delapidated/abandon homes and protections in order to support themselves to create a structured life and achieve sustainable livelihood.
The project is based on arts and social inclusion: the volunteer will be involved in artistic trainings and performences with the target group (disabled and non-disabled youngsters).
The volunteer should have artistic skills to be able to:
- Teach (preferably) skills connected to circus performance (acrobatics, singing, clowning, juggling, dansing etc)
- In addition, he/she can teach target group how to play guitar, trumpet and any other instrument
- Or train target group to sing, dance and do any kind of theatrical performance.
Conditions for both projects:
- the age limit is 30.
- Visa, vaccination and travel costs are covered by the program - except for the 10% contribution to the international travel costs!
- Insurance (AXA) is covered by the program
- Board and lodging is arranged by the host organisation (shared apartment with other volunteers, pocket money of 55 eur/month, around 150 eur/month for food)
