H.E. British Ambassador Paul Fox Visits ELTE Faculty of Social Sciences
H.E. Paul Fox, British Ambassador to Hungary, made a visit to the Faculty of Social Sciences at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) on March 4, 2025.

The ambassador—accompanied by Political Officer and Second Secretary Leslie Hayler—was warmly received by key university officials, including László Borhy, Rector of the University; Csaba Prónai, Dean of the Faculty; Zoltán Gábor Szűcs-Zágoni, Vice Dean of the Faculty; and Andrew Ryder, Director of the Institute of Political and International Studies.

Following the formal reception, Ambassador Fox engaged with students through an insightful discussion focused on contemporary British politics. Chaired by Tímea Varga (Institute of Political and International Studies), the session attracted a lively group of participants, including members of the ELTE International Relations Society and students from the International Relations BA and MA programs. The diverse audience represented both Hungarian and international students eager to discuss pressing global issues.

The discussion centered on crucial topics, including the new British government led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, its approach to relations with Hungary, the European Union, and the wider world, as well as P.M. Starmer’s role in forming a coalition of the willing to help secure a lasting peace in Ukraine.

The audience also posed questions to Ambassador Fox about how to develop a career in diplomacy. He stressed the importance of people skills and forming relationships.

This visit marks an important milestone in the ongoing efforts to enhance international relations at Eötvös Loránd University.
