Faculty Library

Although the Faculty of Social Sciences is one of the University’s youngest faculties, the history of its library goes back to the 1970s. Its core collection is from the Institute of Sociology which was founded in 1969 and further expanded in 2006 with the materials from the General Social Work specialisation which seceded from the Bárczi Gusztáv Faculty of Special Education. We are especially proud of the valuable documents donated and left by our Professors.

Our collection currently includes slightly more than 42,000 documents and is constantly expanding. We also subscribe to almost fifty Hungarian and foreign periodicals. Readers can access the online databases subscribed to by the University.

Our Library is popular among readers, especially among the students of the Faculty. The number of visitors is constantly growing and our expanding collection together with the pleasant atmosphere in the Library compensate for the inconvenience associated with its rather unfavourable location.

University Library of ELTE

With its 1.6 million documents, ELTE University Library is the third largest one of Budapest. The library is located in the city centre, on the route of Metro line M3 (see map). Hungarian or foreign students over the age of 18 as well as secondary school students over the age of 14 are eligible to register at the library.
Go to the page of the ELTE University Library or visit the basic search function platform where you can access the catalog of all ELTE central and faculty libraries.

English-language collection

Unfortunatelly, currently neither our faculty library, nor ELTE University Library can offer a rich collection of English-language documents. We recommend our students to use the services of Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library (library of Budapest) or the library of Central European University (for using the services of the latter, a letter of recommendation provided by one of our professors is required).
