Ongoing Cooperation Between ELTE and UNHCR
On December 3, 2024, with the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding, UNHCR Representation for Central Europe has renewed its cooperation with Eötvös Loránd University.

The collaboration provides a guiding framework for the establishment of a legal clinic focusing on international protection and statelessness. The establishment of the legal clinic will support the provision of information to refugees and stateless people under the oversight of UNHCR and its partners, and will strive to enhance national expertise in these fields.

During the signature event, Nicole Epting, UNHCR’s Representative highlighted the importance of UNHCR’s “whole of society” approach, enshrined in the Global Compact on Refugees. The “whole of society” approach promotes multi-stakeholder partnerships to address migration in all its dimensions by including civil society, academia, national human rights institutions in migration governance.

Balázs Majtényi, Head of the Department of Human Rights and Political Science, ELTE Faculty of Social Sciencess pointed out that the continuation of the cooperation with UNHCR in the framework of the legal clinic initiative marks an important milestone for the Faculty in its mission of transfering knowledge and skills to society.
