The Institute of Sociology invites you to attend a public lecture given by Prof. Karunanithi Gopalakrishnan (School of Social Sciences and Languages at VIT University, India), who is a visiting professor of the Institute of Politics and International Studies.

The primarily focus of presentation is on values in general and social and personal values in particular from a comparative perspective. The values are subject to fluctuations in accordance with on-going social changes ushered in by various modern forces. Consequently, these values are undergoing degeneration. Moreover, modern people attribute new meanings to unethical practices (against values) that they follow by emphasizing their immediate relevance and necessity in the situation of changing life styles. They believe that their willingness to follow those practices will help them make a profit that sustains their livelihood. Besides, the focus is on value replacement and value conflict besides illustrating how the personal values of people play a vital role in fixing their goals and making decisions.
