This workshop aims to familiarize students with the topic of humanitarian aid by exploring how emergencies are assessed and responded to in practice.

The workshop will be facilitated by Marilia Arantes and Marco Vargas, IFRC (Red Cross) Disaster Response Emergency Fund

Through an interactive simulation of disaster situations, facilitated by experts from the Internarional Red Cross, students will learn about the role of different institutions, the importance of localization, and the application of key frameworks such as SPHERE standards and Protection, Gender, and Inclusion (PGI). The exercise will also highlight the challenges faced by humanitarian practitioners in the field and help students practice essential skills such as data analysis, prioritization, coordination, and understanding roles and responsibilities in humanitarian operations.

The workshop is open to any student of ELTE's Faculty of Social Sciences, but places are limited. If you want to participate, please send an email to prof. Béla Soltész at bela.soltesz@tatk.elte.hu at your earliest convenience. In the email, write the name and year of your programme (e.g. International Relations BA 2nd year).

The event is organized by the Department of Global and Development Studies in the framework of the Global Education Week, a European initiative.
