Recommendation
According to the decision of the faculty management of TáTK, the use of the Turnitin plagiarism detection software is mandatory for all opponents when preparing theses evaluations from the 2023/24/1. semester! In the opponent's evaluation (recommended at the end of the content of the document), it is necessary to indicate in one sentence to the student and the Final Examination Committee that the thesis was successfully run through the Turnitin plagiarism detection software.
If the opponent considers the thesis to be plagiarized based on the similarities, it will be explained in a detailed evaluation. In this case, the grade of the thesis can only be "plagiarized". Turnitin can only detect plagiarism in works/creations included in its own database. It may happen that the student drew illegally from a work outside of this database.
There is no maximum percentage match, the evaluation and comprehensive review of the thesis is the opponent's duty and responsibility entirely!
The software can also be used to support one's own scientific works and to evaluate mid-year and end-of-year student works.
Turnitin
Turnitin Feedback Studio is one of the most common plagiarism detection software that allows checking the originality of written texts. The program compares the text of documents uploaded with other scientific texts, internet content and previous texts uploaded to the system. It can also handle translations.
What the program examines during the comparison:
- text matches
- text manipulation
- generated text (test version.trial period: 31st December, 2023)
Use of software
ELTE lecturers and, staff can access the Turnitin interface. By selecting Eötvös Loránd University on the login page, the familiar central login interface of the IIG ID appears. Based on the entry of the IIG ID and password, the system identifies the user.
