Incoming freemover mobility
1. What does a visiting / freemover student status mean?
A freemover is a student who wishes to study abroad independent of any exchange programme. Freemover students are welcome to study independently 1 or 2 semesters and able to attend any of the English language courses open for exchange students offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences, regardless of which programme they belong to.
2. My university doesn’t have a bilateral agreement with ELTE. Can I still study at ELTE?
Yes, you can study at ELTE, Faculty of Social Sciences independently, as a visiting or freemover student.
3. How can I apply as a freemover?
To apply, you would need to submit the following documents before the application deadline (for the Autumn semester mobility – 30th of May, for Spring semester mobility – 30th of November) via email to the international@tatk.elte.hu email address:
- CV
- motivation letter
- transcript of records of previous studies (including your current studies)
- study plan (the courses you wish to take at ELTE Faculty of Social Sciences)
- completed application form, available at: https://tatk.elte.hu/ApplicationFormforExhangeStudents
- language certificate about the level of your English knowledge (at least B2, both in oral and written English)
- certificate of valid student status
- photocopy of valid passport/ personal identity card

4. Is there a deadline to submit a freemover application?
Yes. The application deadline for autumn semester mobility is the 30th of May, for spring semester mobility is the 30th of November.
5. I don’t have an official language certificate. How can I prove my language skills?
If the student does not have an official language certificate, the student can submit an official language proficiency document issued by the student’s home university.
6. When will I receive feedback about my application?
The applicant will receive feedback about the status of their application within 10 working days after the application deadline.
7. How can I get the Letter of Acceptance?
After a completed and successful application, the International Office will issue the Letter of Acceptance and forward it to the applicant via email.
8. How much do I need to pay as a freemover?
The tuition fee the student is required to pay is determined on the basis of the amount of academic credits you might take in a semester.
Freemover fees:
For EU citizens: 10.000 HUF/credit the student registers for.
For students outside the EU: 30 000 HUF basic fee + 15 000 HUF/credit.
9. What courses can I take as a freemover?

10. Can I transfer the completed credits to my home university?
At the end of your mobility, the International Office will issue the Transcript of Records, containing the code and title of the completed courses, credits, grade, and its ECTS-compatible grade. Please contact your home university for detailed information about credit recognition.
11. Are there any orientation programmes for freemovers?
Yes, freemover students can attend on any orientation programmes organised for exchange students by the Faculty of Social Sciences.
12. If I’m staying for one more semester, do I need to apply again?
No, but please inform the international coordinator via email before the start of the study period.
