Within the framework of the Erasmus+ mobility programme, Erasmus+ scholarship winner students will receive the opportunity to participate in a study abroad programme or complete a traineeship (either during studies or after graduation) at a university, professional institution, or non-profit organisation abroad in an Erasmus+ programme country.

OPPORTUNITIES

  1. For long-term study mobility, students can apply to the Faculty of Social Sciences (TáTK) partner universities within Erasmus+ programme countries. Applications should be submitted in Mobility-Online. Applications are only accepted in Mobility-Online until the deadline. The list of eligible universities varies by programme, with no transfer options between them. During the application preparation, students review the offered courses for exchange students on the partner universities' websites to check the language and the level of instruction (undergraduate or postgraduate), and the language proficiency documentation requirements.

The continuously updated list of partner universities is available on the faculty website. When selecting host universities, students should focus on the appropriate department or unit for the field of the agreement (as noted in the ISCED column of the table), such as "social sciences – Faculty of Social Sciences" or "sociology – Faculty of Sociology," choosing 60-70% of their courses from this unit. If a specific department is listed next to the name of the partner university (e.g., faculty or department), students should select courses from there.  If the course catalogue for the upcoming semester or academic year is not yet available at the time of application, students should refer to the previous year's catalogue.

  2. Under Erasmus+ framework agreements covering all subject areas ('all fields'), students can apply for a study abroad program at partner universities with which ELTE has such agreements. Current information on application opportunities can be found here
  3. For long-term traineeship (minimum of 60 days, maximum of 150 days) that can be carried out during studies or after graduation. Current information on application opportunities can be found here

  4. For short-term mobility, students can participate in Blended Intensive Programmes (the BIP is a learning mobility programme for students, consisting of a physical and a virtual part, involving at least 3 higher education institutions from 3 different countries);and also possible to apply for short-term doctoral mobility (5-30 days) as a traineeship, during studies or after absolutorium.

LONG-TERM MOBILITY FOR STUDIES

Long-term student mobility refers to a semester (min. 60 days – maximum one semester) at one of the partner universities. It does not grant a separate degree, but the credits gained at the partner institution will be recognised at ELTE after returning from the mobility (the credit recognition is mandatory). Additionally, it allows students to study at foreign institutions without paying tuition fees. At the partner university, the student will be registered as a guest student, not as a student of a specific programme. This means they are not required to follow a prescribed curriculum but can choose courses freely within certain frameworks. The student must complete at least 20 credits worth of courses at the receiving institution.

The current application call for long-term mobility can be viewed by clicking here, and it is always important to review the faculty-specific call as well (which can be found in the central call) due to specific faculty requirements.

Language Proficiency: It is important that applicants for the Erasmus+ scholarship have at least an intermediate (B2) level of language proficiency in the language of instruction at the university they are applying to. It is highly advised to check the language requirements of the host university at their website, including the accepted level and type of language certificate during the application period, as the host university may veto the mobility due to insufficient language skills.

Partner Universities: The list of universities that are eligible for application is always included in the current call for applications. The list of TáTK partner universities is available and can be viewed here for informational purposes (the website is continuously updated).

Students can only apply to universities with which their specific programme has a valid agreement (agreements made by other faculties or programmes can not be considered). This ensures that appropriate courses are available in the selected university’s course catalogue. During the preparation of the application, students should consult the websites of the partner universities to review their course offerings, check which languages and academic levels (undergraduate or graduate) the courses are advertised in, and what proof of language proficiency is required. Based on this, they should prepare their motivation letter and study plan.

When browsing the selected university’s website, please ensure that you choose the correct organizational unit. To help with this, refer to our table of partner universities: the “ISCED” column indicates the correct unit (e.g. social sciences 0310 – Faculty of Social Sciences; sociology 0314 – Faculty of Sociology). Alternatively, if the organizational unit (e.g.department) is explicitly listed next to the partner university’s name, that is the correct one. This is crucial because you will be officially registered in that unit, and at least 60-70% of your courses should be selected from that unit. Please note that the next semester/academic year’s course lists may not always be available at the time of application; in such cases, the previous year’s course list should be used.

TIMEFRAME FOR THE MOBILITY

The mobility window is the most suitable time for the mobility. For information on the mobility window, please click here

  • First-year undergraduate students are not eligible for Erasmus+ student mobility, but they can submit their application after completing at least one semester of their studies

  • The scholarship requires active student status (applications can also be submitted with passive status). Therefore, as long as the mobility period is not completed, the student's status cannot change to passive, absolved, or graduated. Thus, it is crucial to be well-informed about the academic calendar of the host institution!

  • Mobility planned in Germany during the final semester is not recommended as the autumn semester runs until March, and the spring semester lasts until August.

  • Extending your studies at ELTE is, of course, an option, and it is up to the student to consider this possibility (whether they still have state-funded semesters available or are self-funded).

  • Since active student status is a prerequisite, students must be enrolled at ELTE for the duration of their Erasmus+ semester. Self-funded students are required to pay the tuition fee (and, for English-language programmes, the foreign language training contribution as well).

TRAINEESHIP

Students can apply for an Erasmus+ traineeship not only during the application periods but also continuously throughout the academic year, with a decision made within two months of submission. To ensure timely notification of the application decision and receive the scholarship before the start of the mobility, the application must be submitted by the first day of the third month before the planned departure date. If the application is submitted later, the student is responsible for any consequences resulting from the delay. Applications cannot be submitted retroactively for traineeships that have already started.

Submitted applications are first reviewed by the programme director and then by the faculty's Foreign Affairs Committee. It is the student's responsibility to find a traineeship that aligns with their goals and academic objectives. Unlike long-term student mobility, there is no database of host institutions for traineeships, so students have more freedom in the selection. However, there is a database of traineeship locations where ELTE students have previously worked and/or are willing to accept ELTE students.

Erasmus+ after graduation traineeships can be carried out up to one year after graduation. Interested students can only apply for this type of traineeship in their last semester, until the end of the semester (the last day of the exam period).

APPLICATION AND EVALUATION PROCESS

APPLICATION

The documents required for the application are always specified in the current call for applications. For general guidance, the following list can be used as a reference:

  • Motivation letter and study plan (in the language of the mobility destination) for each institution applied to. The document includes the motivation for participating in the Erasmus+ programme and the courses the student intends to take at the host university
  • Curriculum Vitae/CV (in the language of the mobility destination)
  • Copy of BA’s degree certificate (if the student is enrolled in an MA programme or Doctoral programme)
  • Proof of Language Proficiency
  • For students applying for a traineeship, the host company/organisation must issue an invitation letter for the student. While there is no template for this, the letter must include the following essential information: the student’s full name, details of the host institution (such as the name of the company/organisation, address, and contact details), the planned duration of the traineeship (start and end date). This letter is crucial for the Erasmus+ application and confirms the student’s placement at the host institution for the traineeship. It should be signed and stamped by a representative of the hosting company or organisation
  • For non-Hungarian students: copy of the registration of permanent residence permit or the copy of the residence permit or the copy of the refugee status
  • For students applying to North-Macedonia, Serbia or Turkey): Consent to data transfer to third country

Optional: Certificate of active participation in the Student Union or any other organisation (HÖK, ESN, OTDK stb.)

EVALUATION

The applications are first evaluated by the Faculty's Foreign Affairs Committee (by the delegated faculty members of the institutes), according to the Erasmus+ student application scoring system. Based on the ranking recommended by the Faculty Foreign Affairs Committee, the final decision is made by the ELTE Student and Teacher Mobility Committee (HOMB). Students will be officially notified about the result via email. For traineeship applications received outside the application period, students will be notified via email.
