Erasmus+ Study Mobility - For Applicants
1. Where can I find information about the Erasmus+ application process?
All important information about the Erasmus+ application process can be found on the university website and the faculty website.
2. How and when can I apply for an Erasmus+ scholarship?
Students can apply for an Erasmus+ study abroad mobility every academic year during the spring semester (usually in February) for mobility periods taking place in the autumn and spring semesters of the following academic year. This period is called the main application period. A second call for application is held during the autumn semester (usually in September) for any remaining places, allowing students to apply for mobility in the spring semester of that academic year. For example, if a student wishes to go on mobility in the autumn or spring semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, they must apply during the main application period in the spring semester of the previous academic year (2024/2025). Or if they wish to go on mobility in the spring semester of 2025/2026, they may apply in autumn 2025 for any remaining places after the main application period.
Applicants for Erasmus+ study abroad mobility must submit their application exclusively in Mobility-Online within the designated application period.
3. Where can I find the list of partner universities I can apply to?
The continuously updated list of partner universities is available on the faculty website. The list of universities available for application is always included in the current call for applications. During the main application period (each academic year’s spring semester), the list published on the faculty website is the same as the one in the official call for applications. During the second call for application (each academic year’s autumn semester), the list of the remaining available places at the partner universities after the main application period can be found in the current call for applications.
4. Can I apply for a similar programme’s partner university?
For long-term study mobility, students can only apply to universities with which the Faculty of Social Sciences (TáTK) has an Inter-Institutional Agreement. The list of eligible universities varies by programme, with no transfer options between them. In the second-to-last column of the list of partner universities on the faculty website, students can find information on from which study field they can apply to a given partner institution.
5. Can I apply for a university which is not on the partner universities list but on their website, I found the programme I’m studying?
No, students can only apply to universities with which the Faculty of Social Sciences (TáTK) has an Inter-Institutional Agreement for their field of study. For details see: list of partner universities.
6. What level of language knowledge do I need to participate in an Erasmus+ mobility programme?
To successfully complete the semester, students must have at least a B2 level of language proficiency in the language of instruction. Information on the language of instruction can be found on the faculty’s partner universities website as well as on the partner university’s website.
It is important to distinguish between two aspects:
- Language certification required for ELTE application: The accepted language certificates for application to ELTE can be found in the Erasmus+ student application scoring system, along with the points awarded for them (under the evaluation section).
- Language certification required by the host university: This is needed for the application process to the host university, which only takes place after successfully applying to ELTE and being nominated. Information on this requirement is available on the faculty website.
7. What should I include in the study plan and the motivational letter?
For each partner university applied to in the Erasmus+ application, the study plan and motivational letter, written in English, must include:
The student’s
- Personal and professional motivation
- General personal and professional goals
- Justification for choosing the destination country and city
- List of courses offered and planned to be taken at the host university, along with a link to the university’s website where the courses were selected
- Plan of course recognition at ELTE
- The language proficiency, considering the language of the host university and country
- Any other relevant additional information
The template for the study plan and motivational letter can be found on the following link.
8. After submitting the application, can I change the order of the universities I applied to?
After submitting the application, the Mobility-Online platform will not allow you to make changes, so unfortunately, it’s not possible to change the order of the universities you applied to.
9. I am a student at ELTE, but a non-EU citizen. Can I still apply for an Erasmus+ long-term study mobility scholarship?
If you are a self-funded student, you can apply for an Erasmus+ long-term study mobility scholarship. Please note that as a self-funded student, you will be required to pay the ELTE tuition fee during your mobility, as you need to have an active student status, which is dependent on paying the tuition fee for the given semester.
If you are a Stipendium Hungaricum or DFP student, please note that you are not entitled to use financial support for taking part in other scholarship programmes or partial studies outside Hungary as your stipend covers studies in Hungary. Therefore, unfortunately you can not apply for an Erasmus+ long term study mobility scholarship. Moreover, you must habitually reside in Hungary during the study period. The Erasmus+ long-term study mobility requires a minimum duration of 60 days and must conclude by the end of the exam period, which makes the scholarships incompatible. The scholarship holder must habitually reside in Hungary during the study period. The Erasmus+ long-term study mobility requires a minimum duration of 60 days and must conclude by the end of the exam period, which makes the scholarships incompatible.
