Can a country that has become a symbol of democratic decline also become a model for democratic renewal? Join us for a thought-provoking public lecture by Kim Lane Scheppele, Professor of Sociology and International Affairs at Princeton University, who will explore whether Hungary's 2026 election could mark the beginning of a broader democratic resurgence.

Drawing on Hungary's experience and developments in other countries, including the United States, the lecture will examine the conditions under which democracies can recover after periods of erosion and whether Hungary could inspire a new "democratic cascade."

The discussion will be moderated by Gábor Halmai, Professor Emeritus of the ELTE Faculty of Social Sciences.
