First-year students must find a supervisor until the last day before the exam period of their first semester and have the supervisor’s agreement signed. You need the approval of TTDT, too. Supervisors can grade tutorial consultations only if invited in time. It is only possible to register for tutorial consultation once a semester, which means you cannot repeat it if failed. If your tutorial consultation is not graded (which can only happen if you fail to appear at consultations, or you do not have a supervisor by the exam period of your first semester), your training terminates without a result.

Yes, you can have two supervisors from the beginning of your studies. If you wish to invite a second supervisor until the end of your 3rd active semester, that is also possible, but you will need the approval of your new co-supervisor, your original supervisor, the programme director, and the TTDT. 

You are allowed to find another supervisor until the end of your 3rd active semester, but you need the approval of both your new supervisor and the old one, as well as that of the TTDT. After you have started your 4th active semester, you are not allowed to change.

The comprehensive exam (also called complex exam) is the close of the study and research phase at the end of your 4th active semester. You are required to demonstrate both your theoretical knowledge and your preparedness for writing the thesis at the exam.

You need to register for your comprehensive (complex) exam until 31 March in a spring semester, and 31 October in a fall semester. Registration means sending the following documents to the administrators (doktori@tatk.elte.hu):

• application form,

• supervisor’s proposal,

• research plan,

• a chapter of your future thesis.
